  • Physical Education

This page outlines our approach to PE. Please visit the PE Hub for our full PE offer across the curriculum and beyond the classroom.

    The Intent

At Anson, we aim to teach a high-quality physical education curriculum that inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other activities. We believe that physical education is a unique and vital contributor to a pupil’s physical development and well-being.

    • Children are encouraged and provided with opportunities to become physically confident in a way which supports their health, fitness and well-being and learn about ways to lead healthy and active lives.
    • Children will have many opportunities to compete in sports and other activities to build character and help to embed values such as teamwork, respect, determination, resilience, passion and self-belief.
    • Skills pupils gain in PE are transferred to other subjects so children have the tools to succeed in many areas of the curriculum.
    • Develop links with local clubs and encourage children to join and play a greater role in our local community
    • Offer the chance for pupils to explore a range of sporting experiences after school.
    • Children are presented with opportunities where sport if fun, develops their confidence and self belief and can lead to them make lifelong healthy choices.

    The Implementation

We want to provide a challenging and enjoyable learning experience through a range of indoor and outdoor sporting activities including invasion games, net & wall games, strike and field games, gymnastics, dance, swimming. However, we want to go further and engage with partners who can help us go above and beyond the National Curriculum offer.

    In order to achieve this:

    • The knowledge and skills of each sporting activity are mapped across the school, ensuring that knowledge builds progressively and that children develop the required skills for the next stage of their learning.
    • Investment sets out the PE units which are to be taught throughout the year and ensures that the requirements of the National Curriculum are fully met.
    • Teachers have access to CPD events to make continued improvement in their provision.
    • Pupils access to the borough’s sports events, sports leadership programme, competitions and festivals.
    • In EYFS, we provide workshops to support parents and carers with their child’s physical development.
    • A range of extra-curricular activities are offered, allowing children to further embed their skills and knowledge. These are either after school clubs run by teachers or by external coaches.
    • Use PE sports premium funding to raise the profile of sport and identify key priorities to support the most vulnerable in our community.
    • Celebrate sport in our Sports Day and Sports Week as a whole school community with opportunites for children from Nursery to Year 6.

    The Impact

    • Children participate in and enjoy a variety of sports through quality teaching that is engaging and fun.
    • Children learn to take responsibility for their own health and fitness.
    • Many children take part in sports beyond the school day.
    • Children deepen their understanding of PE, year on year, by being introduced to specific vocabulary.
    • All children have the opportunity to take part in extra-curricular activities and demonstrate new skills.
    • All children take part in Sports Day at Willesden Green Sports Centre and Sports Week activities in school.
