  • Mental Health and Wellbeing

At Anson, we are all passionate about promoting positive mental health and wellbeing within our school community. Our dedicated pastoral team includes:

Miss Callaghan - Designated Safeguarding Lead and Mental Health Leader

    Mrs Barrett - SENDCo

Miss Greenland - Peer Mentor Programme Leader

Miss Fakhoury, Miss Flynn and Mrs Siggers - ELSA Team

    Miss Lally - Drama Therapist

We have the following in place to support the Anson community with mental health and wellbeing:

    For Children

An open-door policy which encourages children to share their feelings with our staff without fear of judgment.

Class worry boxes. Children are invited to write or draw their worries and pop them into their class worry box. This is a great way for children to release some of those distracting thoughts and reset their minds for the day ahead.

A broad and engaging PSHE curriculum which develops children’s emotional literacy and encourages openness, resilience, self-esteem and kindness.

A wide range of after-school clubs to inspire new hobbies and friendships.

School events such as discos, film nights, bake sales, trips and talent shows. Read the latest newsletter to find out what’s coming up.

A school ethos which values creativity, individuality and fun!

A consistent and effective behaviour policy which promotes teamwork and does not tolerate bullying.

Lunchtime clubs and a peer mentoring system to support children at playtimes.

We also work with outside agencies to source professional support including educational psycologists, play therapists and drama therapy. The Kids Network also provides 1:1 mentoring for a number of pupils.

In school we also use Lego Therapy and targeted mentoring with the Headteacher to build communcation and social skills.

    For Parents and Families

Key members of the staff’s pastoral team are present in the playground in the mornings and happy to speak to anyone with a wellbeing concern. Parents and carers can make contact with specific teachers on Seesaw or via e-mail at parents@anson.brent.sch.uk

Friends of Anson is the school’s parent and carer association and a great way to get involved with the school community, meet other families and build a network of support.

WhatsApp groups for parents and carers to help everyone stay connected and support one another.

Wellbeing coffee mornings hosted by our Wellbeing Practitioner.

The Parent Page on website with key information about the school and links to external support services.

    For Staff

Many parents ask us what is in place for staff at Anson.

We have great support network for the whole education system called Education Support. They are the only UK charity dedicated to supporting the mental health and wellbeing of teachers and education staff in schools, colleges and universities.

On top of this our staff structure means that all teachers and support staff have a Team Leader who they can go to for advice and support at any time. The Team Leaders work closely with the pastoral team to report on wellbeing concerns at Senior Leader Meetings. Actions are then taken where required.

On top of this we sign up to the Education Staff Wellbeing Charter which aims to protect everyone working
in education so that they have the opportunity to enjoy the highest possible standard of wellbeing and
    mental health.
