Uniform at Anson

Anson Primary School does not have a school uniform. The Governing Body is responsible for the decisions around school uniform in school. In 2024 the decision was taken to maintain our current position of not having a school uniform. This will be reviewed again in 2029. 

Therefore, the children are welcome to wear sensible clothes of their own choosing. This means they should be presentable to outside visitors and avoid clothes that could cause them discomfort during the school day. 

While there is no formal uniform, we expect children to be well presented and safe in their choices.

It is particularly important that any pupils and families recognise that the school is a working environment, and further that the dress does not cause embarrassment to staff, students and other members of the school community.

The non-uniform dress code should be followed at all times: 
 

The following items are prohibited:

• See-through clothing, for example see-through blouses;
• Very short skirts or shorts;
• Strapless or ‘string-strapped’ tops;
• Clothing which is revealing; for example, exposing bare midriffs;
• Clothing which reveals underwear;
• Flip-flops or backless footwear, due to health and safety issues; all shoes should have closed toes
• Clothing with offensive logos or text (e.g. swear words)
• The usual school rules for jewellery remain in place. 

It is recognised that this dress code will not cover all issues that may arise. Students may seek to wear, for example, items which have not been covered by the above guidelines, but which are against the general sense of the dress code. In such a case, or given any issue of dispute, the final authority is the Headteacher. 

All students are expected to arrive at school wearing clothing in accordance with this dress code.

On PE days children must be dressed appropriately. If their health and safety is at risk they may be asked to sit out the session.
