What animal will you draw?

Tuesday: Make something from the recycling

Everyone is getting so good at recycling, but this week we want you to try and come up with something creative for a cereal box, an egg box or a newspaper.

Perhaps you could make a Frankenstein, a caterpillar or some cereal box apples.

Click on the link below for instructions to over 70 recycling ideas.

Wednesday: play with water

Lots of us love to play with water. One of the best things to do is to make an ice surprise using some small toys.

You fill a bowl with water, drop some toys into the bowl and then pop it in the freezer. Get an adult to help you. Then, you can either try and smash the ice open (make sure you use safe tools and have a grown-up near you) or put the ice block into the bath and watch it melt.

Thursday: plant some seeds

Today is all about exploring seeds. If you can get hold of some seeds (broad beans, or cress are both great) and a small amount of soil, it can be very satisfying to try and help something to grow. In fact with both those seeds you don't even need soil. They will both grow on damp kitchen paper.

If you want to be more adventurous you can grow lemons from fruit seeds by putting them directly in soil and following these simple rules:

  • Plant at least 5-10 seeds at one time in case some of them don’t sprout. It’s better to choose plump-looking seeds from a fresh lemon.
  • Don’t forget that lemon trees love water so keep the soil damp by watering it about 2-3 times a week.
  • Lemon seedlings will require 10-14 hours of sunlight while grown trees need at least 8 hours.
  • If you can see roots through the drainage holes in a pot, it’s time to replant the tree into a bigger container.

It may take about 5 years for the tree to produce fruit, and in some cases, you’ll have to wait up to 15 years. So, don't forget to come back to Anson when you are in your 20s and serve up some fresh lemonade!
