Building a Brighter Future

8th June

Hello Nursery

We hope you enjoyed learning all about Jack and the Beanstalk and maybe took part in trying to grow something at home.

Remember we have the school blog for you to show us all the exciting things you have been doing with your family.

This week we will be looking at one of our favourite stories - The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle

Watch the story with your family.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar - Animated Film

In the internationally acclaimed The Very Hungry Caterpillar, a tiny caterpillar eats and eats...and eats his way through the week.

Key Questions to discuss with your family:

What came out of the little egg?

Why did the caterpillar look for some food?

Can you remember what the caterpillar ate first?

How many oranges did the caterpillar eat?

What did the caterpillar build around himself?

How long did he stay inside?

What did the caterpillar become?

Here is another story about a caterpillar

Can you draw a list of  all the food the hungry caterpillar ate?

Try changing the original story and write your own version by changing the food e.g. on Monday he ate 1 peach but he was still hungry.

This week we will be continuing to introduce the children to early phonics - letter sounds.

In Nursery we use the Jolly Phonics rhymes and actions to help the children to remember each sound. We will introduce two sounds each week.

This week the sounds are 'G' and 'O'

Continue practising this phonics song

Watch these Jolly phonics videos regularly and practise the songs and actions.
