Building a Brighter Future

Wizard Theatre

Wizard Theatre Project

We have been working with Wizard Theatre for a number of years and decided this year to help develop confidence, self esteem, speaking and performance skills using a series of workshops led by actor and facilitator Naomi Felton.

This is an overview of the project, which ran for three terms and touched over 25% of the school population.

Wizard Theatre Project: Overview

As groups were beginning their third term, we sat down and designed a bespoke unit of work with Naomi, and founder of Wizard, Leon Hamilton. We were keen to give the children a focus each week, rather than building to an end performance so we could capture their journey throughout a term.

The resulting three films, made by the children and staff at Anson, demonstrate clearly the progress the children made over the length of the programme. They are very proud of their work.

Night Street

This is a beautiful piece explaining what happens while we are sleeping. This film was made by children in Year 3 as part of the Wizard Theatre project. The video was recorded over 4 weeks. You can see that initially the children are seated to record their lines, but with a growth in confidence they begin to challenge themselves in the delivery of their lines.

Whisked Away (warning - scary content)

This is the story of an empty street, in an empty village and a very spooky house. This film was made by children in Year 4 as part of the Wizard Theatre project. The video was recorded over 5 weeks.

Snow White Lies

This is the true story of Snow White, if that is her real name. This film was made by children in Year 5 as part of the Wizard Theatre project. The video was recorded over 6 weeks. The challenge for the children here was to be loud enough to drown out the rumbling equipment in the school hall.
